Transcendent represents the rise and fall of the dynasties in China. The rise of one dynasty often leads to the fall of another. In my opinion, this repetition and layering bring humanity to our modern society.

In the installation work “Transcendent”, the patterns that appear in the work are creations inspired by Chinese Calligraphy. By writing these Chinese characters at a rapid speed, the appearance of the characters becomes less focused and more abstract. The black pattern symbolizes the calligraphy and the red elements featured in the artwork symbolize the Chinese seals. Shadow is another key feature in this installation: different patterns of shadow are cast by the ink drawing to visualize the history and transformation of dynasties. The lights from different angles represent the different ways we are viewing the history. History is static, but our point of view is shifting when we view it from different perspectives.
